Lesleys Diary - Livery Weekend in York
On Friday 30 April, Mark & I were invited to the York Weekend: this is when Masters & Clerks, together with their spouses, of 9 London Livery Companies with leathery connections, and several other provincial Guilds, are invited by the Master-Elect of The Cordwainers of York to join in the celebrations of their Charter weekend.
We started with an informal dinner party and for this I wore a pink butterfly patterned top with a black tulip shaped skirt by Joseph Ribkoff & matching Choo shoes : the outfit was marvellous, because it is totally uncrushable!
On the Saturday we visited the newly refurbished Jorvic Viking Centre, which was great fun, and had a tour of the Barley Hall, which was also fascinating. We had lunch in the Hall, before exploring more of the City of York. This was an informal day, so I wore a white patterned T shirt, with a neutral coloured straight skirt layered with a leather sleeveless gilet, all by Betty Barclay.
That evening we walked over to the Hall of Merchant Adventurers in Fossgate for the Annual Livery Dinner of the Cordwainers of York. There had been much discussion about 'long' versus 'short' and we decided to support one Mistress, who had brought a cocktail dress, but most Ladies were wearing 'long'..........! I wore a black frilled dress by Joseph Ribkoff with a black beaded pashmina, and my extra-special Jimmy Choos in pink satin, decorated with diamente!
On Sunday 2 May, we attended a Morning Service in All Saints, Pavement, and the Masters had to parade through the City of York in their robes, badges and bonnets (as the tudor hats are called!). I wore a black & white check Betty Barclay suit and black Louboutin courts. Without a doubt, I should have worn a hat, which I would normally do to similar functions, but travelling by train, meant leaving it behind! Shame because the black & white hat I had in mind would have been perfect!
