I absolutely love looking at the history of fashion so I really enjoyed researching this topic. In 1940 Queen Victoria wore a white wedding dress to marry Prince Albert. This marriage was widely published so many brides also wanted white wedding dresses.
No, you cannot wear white to a wedding. White is a colour reserved for a bride, if you do wear a white dress it is seen as very disrespectful and you will be seen to be trying to upstage the bride. However sometimes a wedding will have a theme of all white or black and white. Then you will be told you can wear those colours by the couple themselves.
