hello

Trying Different Shapes

This season there have been lots of different shapes coming through in Mother of the Bride/Groom outfits. Fitted, fluted, peplum, A-line, you name it and it is somewhere on our wedding floor. Whilst a straight, fitted cut has often been favoured by many of the designers, A-line shaped dresses are becoming more and more popular among the collections. An A-line dress pinches in at the waist and flares out into a full skirt, giving a gorgeous feminine silhouette. This shape will do wonders if you are conscious about the size of your hips and thighs and is also perfect for dancing in!

If you are looking for a wedding outfit, make sure you try on different shapes to see which works best for you. If you fancy trying something A-line look out for collections by Fely Campo, Gabriela Sanchez, Aideen Bodkin and John Charles (featured in the photo).

Buying Marc Cain

For over 15 years the Marc Cain buy has always been one of my favourite trips. The showroom is gorgeous and it really helps to see the pieces together in their stories/collections. We replicate this in the way we merchandise our Marc Cain room in the shop.

Every season there is a particular colour scheme that catches our eye. This season look out for a bright pop of Coral and Orange which should be arriving in the shop around June. We love buying the new Marc Cain Bags & Shoes which always complement the fun and unique collections. These AW18 designs are to die for!

Touch of Sparkle

It can seem daunting looking for a Mother of the Bride/Groom outfit that tones with the colour scheme of the wedding. Metallic shades, such as silver and gold, are wonderfully versatile and look gorgeous next to almost any colour. They also complement lots of different complexions. These shades offer a neutral palette that will allow you to accessorize with a pop of bright colour, or alternatively you can simply add different shades from the same palette.

When it comes to wearing neutral colours, the key is in the detail. Look for something with a touch of sparkle, pleating or lace. Beading, pearls, sequins or simply shimmer in the fabric. The overall look is sophisticated and elegant, glamorous at the same time as subtle and understated.

Racing Season

Racing Season is here and the sun is shining. Finally, it’s the perfect excuse to pick out a beautiful dress and, more importantly, a big hat!

When it comes to choosing an outfit for the races there a few things to consider:

1) Is there a dress code?

Some events/enclosures have specific dress codes which require a certain dress length and hat size. Others, such as Huntingdon Racecourse, are not strict but ask ladies to wear “Smart daywear with a hint of playfulness”. It’s not everyday you get to wear this outfit, so have fun with it!

2) Can you wear those shoes all day long?

Be sure to invest in a pair of shoes that are formal, but also comfortable. Good quality leather will mold to the shape of your foot and will make wearing a heel so much more comfortable.

3) Do you feel fabulous?

Floral, vibrant, monochrome, classic – whichever you feel best in, go for it.

Can I wear a Dress without a Jacket?

With Spring/Summer weddings just around the corner the wedding floor is busy with lots of ladies looking to find the perfect outfit for their son’s/daughter’s special day. Being a Mother of the Bride/Groom is sometimes a little daunting when it comes to picking an outfit, but it shouldn’t have to be. We have a huge selection of occasion wear and a knowledgeable team of personal stylists who have years of experience in dressing women for weddings. They will be able to help you in choosing the perfect outfit and instantly put you at ease.

With venues of weddings now changing and lots of people choosing to get married in barns, halls and the like, the rules of dressing for a wedding have certainly changed. Lots of labels (such as John Charles) are starting to incorporate dresses without jackets into their collections. Add a hat/fascinator and the right accessories and these dresses can look simply stunning.

Don’t be afraid to try something different.

A brand we just keep on Repeating

We have been stocking Repeat for over 20 years and the collections never dissapoint. This brand is well known for its quality knitwear and is a huge favourite amongst many of our customers. Every year we get excited when Repeat deliveries arrive in the shop and every season they bring something new. From knitwear to blouses, jeans and dresses, we have been lucky enough to watch the brand grow over the years.

On Friday 30th March we will be holding a Repeat fashion show, using the current Spring/Summer 18 collection. Here you will be able see how the pieces work together to create outfits and most importantly how they look on a body instead of a hanger!

If you would like to come along and watch the show please call us on: 01480 811333 or email Becky at: becky@annefurbank.com

OLVI’S Lace Collections

We recently held our ‘Special Occasion Day’ in the shop – a thoroughly enjoyable day with lots of ladies trying on outfits for their Son’s/Daughter’s weddings, the races and other occasions. Complete with a fashion show and joined by Keith from OLVI’S it was a real hit.

OLVI’S lace is a totally unique brand and their dresses are one of a kind. Each dress is individually handcrafted with quality and skill. The studio is said to be “like a candy shop for those who work in fashion, with rolls of the finest French stretch lace and bobbins of yarn in all different colours.”

If you are looking for a Mother of the Bride/Groom outfit, or have a special occasion to attend, this season we have an array of dresses in striking styles and gorgeous colours.

OLVI’S lace dresses can also be made to order. If there is a specific colour you are after, or an extra scallop or two that you would like added to a dress, we may be able to sort this for you.

All about the neckline

The necklines on occasion wear outfits have always been a huge part of their styling. Be it sweetheart, off the shoulder or a high neckline, there is something for everyone.

Spring summer 2018 sees off the shoulder (with lace infills) and boat necklines making a huge appearance. Along with our current favourite, the shawl collar…

There is something special about a folded, shawl collar neckline. It can be exaggerated and sit high up on your neck, which frames the face and makes the whole outfit look particularly elegant. Alternatively, if you are not comfortable with a high neckline, you can still get the same framing effect with something a little smaller.

This year Fely Campo has detailed the most exquisite necklines on all of her occasion wear outfits. Perfect for a Mother of the Bride/Groom who wants to look extra special on their son or daughter’s wedding day. Look out for her collections in the shop now!
